Dear New Life Family,
Pandemics. Fires. Floods. Elections. Civil Unrest. Famine. Trafficking.
Do you think our world could use more peace in 2020?
As Jesus was nearing the moment of His arrest and eventual execution, He had a moment with the disciples in which He explained the hardship that they would endure because of their faith. And then He shared this promise with them:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
I don’t know about you but sometimes it feels like our world has won. That God is asleep at the wheel. Or that He has forgotten you. Neither are true.
It’s in spite of our trouble that we can bring peace on earth. That’s what following Jesus means: in our trouble we will have peace. And we can then share that peace with others.
Every year we get to give above and beyond our normal 10% tithe to bring peace on earth. To meet practical needs. To look after the orphan and the widow (James 1:27). To encourage forgotten communities where local churches are the only hope left.
What if your generosity helped bring peace to a world that desperately needed it?
That’s the invitation that Jesus gave to the disciples. And that’s the invitation that He’s extending to us now.
How could we not respond?
